Increases the jurisdictional limit for justice court judges from $3,500 to $5,000 for civil actions filed under the Residential Landlord and Tenant Act (Title 89, Chapter 8)

Maintains the existing $3,500 jurisdictional limit for all other civil actions involving recovery of debts, damages, or personal property

Prohibits justice court judges from having any pecuniary interest in the outcome of cases once a suit has been filed

Takes effect July 1, 2026
