Revises the definition of "dyslexia" under Mississippi's Dyslexia Therapy Scholarship Program to describe it as a specific learning disability characterized by difficulties in word reading and/or spelling involving accuracy, speed, or both, occurring along a continuum of severity

Expands the definition to recognize that dyslexia causes are complex, involving combinations of genetic, neurobiological, and environmental influences that interact throughout development

Acknowledges that underlying difficulties with phonological and morphological processing are common but not universal, and that early oral language weaknesses often foreshadow literacy challenges

Notes secondary consequences including reading comprehension problems, reduced reading and writing experience, impacts on language growth, academic achievement, psychological well-being, and employment opportunities

Takes effect July 1, 2026
