Beginning January 1, 2027, all nurses applying for licensure or renewal in Mississippi must certify completion of one hour of trauma-informed human trafficking training covering identification, response, and reporting procedures.

Nurses must report suspected human trafficking of minors to the Mississippi Department of Child Protection Services under existing child protection statutes (Sections 43-21-353 and 97-5-51).

For adult trafficking victims, nurses must report to law enforcement when the victim is in imminent danger, after obtaining victim consent, or when otherwise required by law.

Persons convicted of human sex trafficking under Section 97-3-54.1(1)(a) involving commercial sexual activity will be added to the sex offender registry.

The act takes effect July 1, 2026.
