Mississippi veterans with 100% permanent service-connected disability or at least 70% nonpermanent service-connected disability can purchase up to two motor vehicle license tags and one motorcycle tag for $1.00 each, regardless of vehicle make, model, or weight.

The bill explicitly exempts these $1.00 veteran tags from the state highway privilege tax, which normally ranges from $7.20 to $1,776.00 annually depending on vehicle weight and carrier type.

Veterans with nonpermanent disability ratings must provide an updated benefits letter from the VA at each renewal confirming their rating remains at 70% or higher.

Surviving spouses of eligible deceased veterans may continue receiving the $1.00 tag benefit as long as they remain unmarried.

The bill takes effect July 1, 2026.
