Honorably discharged veterans presenting a valid DD Form 214 may receive one free regular or military license tag, or a special/personalized tag for only the additional specialty fee.

Eligibility is limited to one free tag per veteran, though households with multiple veterans may each receive a tag if they present their own DD Form 214.

The benefit applies to private passenger vehicles, including those over 10,000 pounds, and exempts qualifying veterans from the standard highway privilege tax ($15.00 for regular vehicles) and registration fees ($5.00 for tags, $3.75 for decals, plus $4.00 trauma care fee).

The Mississippi Department of Revenue is authorized to create rules for implementing the program.

Effective date is July 1, 2026.
