Daeshun Ruffin, Jackson State University guard, was named SWAC Player of the Year on March 6, 2026, while ranking third nationally in scoring with 23.3 points per game

Ruffin, a 5-foot-10 fifth-year senior from Jackson, Mississippi, scored 30+ points in eight games and 20+ points in 19 games during the 2025-2026 season

The resolution recognizes Ruffin's career achievements including being a 2021 McDonald's All-American, two-time Mississippi Gatorade Player of the Year (2020, 2021), and the highest-ranked recruit in Ole Miss history before transferring to JSU

Ruffin also contributed 5.3 assists per game (second in SWAC), 2.8 rebounds, and 1.6 steals while shooting 42.6% from the field

The Mississippi Senate directs the resolution be presented to Ruffin, his family, coaches, and the JSU Athletic Director
