Settlement proceeds from litigation by the Department of Justice or other state agencies must be deposited in the state general fund, after deducting litigation costs and attorney fees

Exceptions include settlements executed before the effective date, Montana tobacco settlement trust funds, victim restitution, and natural resource damage recoveries for restoration activities

State special revenue account balances from civil fines and settlements may not exceed three times the department's appropriated budget at the end of each biennium, with excess funds transferred to the general fund

Governor may authorize alternative allocation of settlement funds and must report any such exceptions to the legislative finance committee

Appropriates $10,000 from the general fund to the governor's office for reporting requirements, effective July 1, 2025
