Montana would join the Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) Compact, allowing APRNs licensed in one member state to practice in all other member states under a multistate license without obtaining additional state licenses

Eligible APRNs must complete accredited graduate-level education, pass national certification exams, hold unencumbered RN and APRN licenses, have at least 2,080 hours of APRN practice experience, and pass criminal background checks

The compact covers four APRN roles: certified registered nurse anesthetists (CRNA), certified nurse-midwives (CNM), clinical nurse specialists (CNS), and certified nurse practitioners (CNP)

Multistate licenses automatically include prescriptive authority for non-controlled drugs; authority to prescribe controlled substances still requires compliance with each individual state's requirements

The Interstate Commission of APRN Compact Administrators would govern the compact, with authority to promulgate binding rules, share licensure and disciplinary information between states, and take enforcement actions against non-compliant states
