Allows peace officers to complete the required basic course at either the Montana Law Enforcement Academy or a law enforcement academy administered by an accredited Montana college or university, with curriculum approved by both a state/local law enforcement agency and the Montana Public Safety Officer Standards and Training Council

Requires academy programs at Montana colleges/universities to have curriculum and training methods commensurate with the peace officer basic course at the Montana Law Enforcement Academy

Grants the Council authority to adopt rules implementing peace officer employment, education, and certification standards under the Montana Administrative Procedure Act

Maintains existing requirements that peace officers complete basic training within 1 year of initial appointment or within 1 year of returning after a break in service exceeding 5 years

Effective immediately upon passage and approval
