State and local government agencies in Montana are prohibited from requiring, requesting, soliciting, or compelling any person to provide a diversity statement

Agencies cannot grant preferential consideration or treatment to individuals who submit diversity statements, whether solicited or unsolicited

"Diversity statement" is defined as any submission promoting differential treatment based on race, color, ethnicity, sex, sexual orientation, national origin, religion, or gender identity

Federal law exception allows agencies to accept diversity statements only to the minimum extent required by federal mandates

Applies to all state government branches, departments, universities, and colleges, as well as counties, cities, towns, and school districts
