Allows the Department of Revenue administrator to waive the formal claim filing requirement and automatically return unclaimed property directly to owners without requiring them to submit a claim form

Automatic return is permitted only when the recipient is the apparent owner listed on filed reports, the administrator has validated the person's identity and address, and the property value is $1,000 or less

Requires the administrator to document and maintain records of proof of ownership, proof of identity, and confirmation that property was returned to the owner when using the automatic return process

Amends Section 70-9-815, MCA, governing the filing and handling of unclaimed property claims

Effective immediately upon passage and approval
