Montana Legislature requests U.S. Congress propose a constitutional amendment to repeal the 17th Amendment, which established direct popular election of U.S. Senators in 1913

Proposed replacement would return Senator selection to state legislatures, with Senators serving 6-year terms and subject to removal by majority vote of state legislature

State legislatures would be required to establish liaison committees to maintain communication with their Senators and evaluate impact of federal legislation on the state

Senator salaries and benefits would be paid by their respective states rather than the federal government

Copies of the resolution to be sent to the President, U.S. Senate Majority Leader, House Speaker, and Montana's Congressional Delegation
