Requests an interim study of Montana State Hospital and patient transition issues, with findings to be reported to the 70th Legislature by September 15, 2026

Study must examine refurbishing existing campus space to refocus the hospital on forensic commitments and the most serious civil commitments

Study must identify ways to increase community supports, including community treatment teams, to help patients comply with medication and treatment plans during transition out of the hospital

Study must explore alternatives to conducting court-ordered fitness evaluations and fitness restoration on the hospital campus, including county-based programs

Study must project short-term and long-term bed space needs and compare costs of expanding hospital capacity versus developing community-based alternatives
