Teachers in schools with at least a half-time principal may temporarily exclude a pupil from the classroom for up to 24 hours if the pupil's behavior impedes teaching or learning

Excluded pupils must be directed to the principal or designee and may not return until a return plan is communicated to the teacher, which may include behavioral contracts, parent communication, or meetings

School district trustees must adopt policies defining teacher authority and procedures for temporary pupil exclusions, though policies cannot contradict due process or federal disability laws (IDEA, ADA, Section 504)

Pupils who fail to fulfill return plans or repeatedly disrupt learning may face further discipline including suspension or expulsion in compliance with IDEA

Effective July 1, 2025, applying to school years beginning on or after that date
