All voter-approved mill levies are limited to a maximum duration of 10 years and must be reapproved by voters to continue beyond that period

Existing mill levies last approved by voters more than 5 years ago terminate on December 31, 2028; those approved within the last 5 years terminate on December 31, 2030

Exceptions from the 10-year limit apply to certain school levies, community college levies, law enforcement levies, fire protection levies, and emergency medical service levies

Governing bodies may submit a terminating levy for voter reapproval once per year beginning 3 years before its termination date

The act takes effect January 1, 2026, with the 10-year durational limit applying to mill levy elections held on or after that date
