Requires law enforcement weapons involved in officer-involved shootings to be collected by investigators for photography, test firing, cartridge case collection, and documentation of unique weapon characteristics at the state laboratory of criminalistics

Mandates return of seized weapons within 7 days after investigation is complete, provided no appeals are pending and no criminal charges have been filed or are contemplated against the officer

Applies to weapons collected both for standard evidence testing and those seized as part of a coroner's inquest under Montana code 46-4-201

Weapons must be returned to the originating law enforcement agency for redeployment in the field
