Claimants seeking damages for personal injury or wrongful death may request liability insurance policy limits from an insurer before filing a lawsuit in district court.

Requests must be signed by the claimant's attorney (or the claimant if unrepresented) and include certifications that the claim is well-grounded in fact and not made for improper purposes.

Insurers must respond within 45 days; courts may impose sanctions on insurers who fail to comply with the request.

Disclosed insurance information is not admissible as evidence at trial, and insurance applications are excluded from required disclosures.

Effective immediately upon passage and approval.
