Youth suicide awareness and prevention training becomes mandatory for all school district employees and Office of Public Instruction staff who work directly with students, changing from a legislative recommendation to a requirement.

Training frequency increases from every 5 years to every 3 years, while minimum training duration decreases from 2 hours to 1 hour per cycle.

Office of Public Instruction must ensure low-cost and no-cost training options are available, in consultation with the Department of Public Health and Human Services.

School district trustees must include a description of youth suicide awareness and prevention training requirements in their suicide prevention and response policies, procedures, or plans.

Effective date is July 1, 2025.
