Local governments (cities, towns, counties, consolidated city-counties) and the Department of Labor and Industry must send copies of building and electrical permits for new construction to the Department of Revenue within 90 days of issuance.

Permits may be transmitted electronically or by other means and must include clear location information such as an address, geocode, or legal description in a format agreed upon by the Department of Revenue.

The requirement applies specifically to permits for new construction, enabling the Department of Revenue to identify and track newly constructed properties for tax assessment purposes.

The provision will be codified as part of Title 15, chapter 7, part 1 of Montana Code (property tax administration).
