Legislators may choose a preferred personal email address as their primary contact for legislative branch communications and public profile listings, rather than using the official legislative branch-provided email

Legislators who use a non-legislative email address must manage all electronic communications related to legislative business in compliance with Montana's public records laws (Title 2, chapter 6, part 10)

Legislators using personal email must also follow the legislative branch's records management plan requirements under section 2-6-1012(1)(d)

The new provisions would be codified as part of Title 5, chapter 11, part 4 of Montana Code

Effective immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor
