General Assembly honors the founders of Little Switzerland and joins the community in celebrating its centennial observance.

Little Switzerland was founded in 1909 when Heriot Clarkson and nine others organized the Switzerland Company and purchased 1,100 acres between McDowell and Mitchell Counties.

The Switzerland Company began selling lots on February 10, 1910, naming the area "Little Switzerland" because the mountains resembled the Jura Mountains in Switzerland.

Little Switzerland served as a resort community with boys' and girls' camps, including Camp As-You-Like-It, one of the first girls' camps in Western North Carolina.

Secretary of State shall transmit a certified copy of this resolution to the Little Switzerland Centennial Celebration Committee.
