S.B. 1242 Summary

• Allows courts to extend filing deadlines by up to 30 additional days for partition cases (previously limited to 10 days) and removes requirement for affidavit showing good cause.

• Permits defendants on DWI probation to be paroled into residential treatment programs in addition to completing substance abuse assessments and treatment.

• Changes vehicle trip permits from 3-day to 10-day duration and allows unregistered vehicles up to 10 days to obtain inspection before registration through G.S. 20-50(b).

• Renames State Employee Incentive Bonus Program to NC-Thinks (State Employee Suggestion Program) throughout relevant statutes.

• Removes requirement for jail facilities to annually report immigration status queries to Governor's Crime Commission and makes other technical corrections to immigration inquiry procedures.
