SB 1450 Summary

• Establishes normal retirement age of 60 for teachers and state employees hired on or after January 1, 2011, with early retirement at age 55 requiring 20 years of service.

• Changes law enforcement officer retirement eligibility for new hires (on or after January 1, 2011) from age 50 with 15 years of service to age 60 with 5 years of service, or age 55 with 25 years of service.

• Eliminates longevity pay for all state employees, officers, and officials hired on or after January 1, 2011, while preserving it for current employees.

• Requires new employees hired on or after January 1, 2011, to contribute $10 per month toward health insurance under the State Health Plan, whereas current employees receive noncontributory coverage.

• Narrows the definition of "law enforcement officer" for new members (hired on or after January 1, 2011) to employees of State Bureau of Investigation, State Highway Patrol, or Alcohol Law Enforcement Division only.
