Division of Motor Vehicles shall develop a military designation for drivers licenses that can be displayed upon request by North Carolina residents who are honorably discharged from the United States Armed Forces.

Applicants requesting the veteran military designation must provide a Form DD-214 as proof of honorable discharge from military service.

The veteran military designation can appear on both drivers licenses and identification cards.

Existing active duty military designation provisions remain unchanged, allowing active duty personnel, spouses, and dependent children to obtain military designation with mail renewal privileges.

Effective date is upon completion of the Division's Next Generation Secure Driver License System implementation or July 1, 2012, whichever occurs first, applying to licenses issued after that date.
