H229 Summary

• Allows public transportation authorities and regional public transportation authorities to apply for elderly and disabled transportation assistance funds on behalf of the counties and municipalities they serve.

• Expands fund eligibility beyond counties to include public transportation authorities and regional public transportation authorities created under Articles 25 or 26 of Chapter 160A of the General Statutes.

• Requires written agreement between the regional public transportation authority and the municipalities or counties it serves before applying for funds.

• Permits transportation authorities to receive funds based on the existing distribution formula in G.S. 136-44.27(d), maintaining the same allocation methodology.

• Effective upon becoming law, ratified June 15, 2011.
