• Simplifies satisfaction of security instruments by allowing recording of satisfaction documents, affidavits of satisfaction, or trustee's satisfaction instead of requiring presentation of original instruments to the register of deeds.

• Eliminates previous methods for recording satisfactions that required presentation of original security instruments with endorsements or presentation of instruments more than 10 years old, effective October 1, 2011.

• Establishes requirements for electronic registration of plats with registers of deeds, including authorization by the register, submission by governmental units or trusted submitters, and inclusion of required certifications and submitter identification.

• Expands access to military discharge documents recorded with the register of deeds to include the subject's widow or widower, in addition to the subject of the document.

• Modifies G.S. 58-74-10 to allow discharge of mortgages given in lieu of bonds through recording a satisfaction document rather than marginal entry on the record.
