Removes the requirement that law enforcement officers have one year of creditable service to qualify for disability retirement benefits for injuries incurred in the line of duty under the Local Governmental Employees' Retirement System.

Law enforcement officers who become incapacitated as a result of injuries sustained while performing their duties may now receive disability retirement benefits regardless of length of service, provided they meet all other eligibility requirements.

Maintains the existing five-year creditable service requirement for disability retirement for other members, except for firefighters and rescue squad workers who continue to require one year of service.

The act became effective July 1, 2011.
