Amends domestic violence protective order procedures in G.S. 50B-2(c) to reorganize ex parte order provisions into numbered subsections and clarify custody order standards.

Requires temporary custody orders ex parte to be entered only when the court finds the child is exposed to substantial risk of physical or emotional injury or sexual abuse.

Limits continuances of domestic violence protective order hearings to one extension of no more than 10 days unless all parties consent or good cause is shown, and gives such hearings priority on the court calendar.

Adds new provision to G.S. 50-13.4(c) to extend child support termination deadline for children enrolled in cooperative innovative high school programs (early college programs) until they complete their fourth year of enrollment or reach age 18, whichever occurs later.

Becomes effective October 1, 2012, and applies to actions or motions filed on or after that date.
