Hazardous materials (H and X) endorsements on commercial driver's licenses must be renewed every five years or less to comply with Transportation Security Administration security screening requirements.

Commercial driver's licenses containing H or X endorsements expire on the same date as the licensee's TSA security threat assessment, ensuring endorsement and license expiration dates align.

Commercial driver's licenses with S endorsements (school bus) continue to expire under existing law regardless of H or X endorsement status.

H and X endorsements expire when the commercial driver's license expires.

Effective July 1, 2012, applying to endorsements issued for commercial driver's licenses on or after that date.
