Lenoir County Board of Education elections converted to nonpartisan basis conducted at regular county elections, effective January 1, 2012 upon U.S. District Court approval modifying the consent order in Lossie Holmes v. Lenoir County Board of Education.

Guilford County Board of Commissioners restructured to consist of 9 members: 8 elected from single-member districts and 1 elected at-large, effective the first Monday of December 2012 with staggered 4-year terms beginning in 2012 and 2014.

Buncombe County Board of Commissioners structure frozen until 2020 census, prohibiting alteration under Part 4 of Article 4 of Chapter 153A of the General Statutes prior to the census return.

Mecklenburg County and Guilford County board structures similarly protected from alteration under Part 4 of Article 4 of Chapter 153A until 2020 census and July 1, 2017, respectively.
