HB 737 Summary

• Expands criminal history checks for all child care providers to include substitute providers and household members over 15 years old in family child care homes and child care centers in residences.

• Requires criminal history record checks prior to employment and every three years thereafter for all child care providers, checking county, state, and federal records.

• Adds numerous crime categories to the list of disqualifying offenses, including burglary, larceny, robbery, identity theft, animal cruelty, and riot-related charges.

• Establishes new grounds for disqualification including conviction of child neglect/abuse crimes, adjudication as a "responsible individual" in child abuse/neglect cases, and sex offender registry convictions.

• Effective January 1, 2013.
