House Resolution 748 designates April of each year as Organ Donation Month in North Carolina to recognize the importance of organ and tissue donation.

Notes that one organ donor can save up to eight lives and one tissue donation can improve or save up to 50 lives.

References the 2007 Heart Prevails legislation that increased organ donation rates, with North Carolina experiencing one of the largest increases in organ donation transplants in 2008 and a 50% increase in corneal transplants.

Highlights that as of January 2011, over 3,400 North Carolinians were on the waiting list for organ donation, while more than 140 people had died waiting for transplants by October 2010.

Encourages North Carolina citizens to become aware of the importance of organ donation and recognize April as Organ Donation Month.
