Session Law 2012-180: Senate Bill 133

• Eliminates outdated requirements for physical jury boxes and numbered cards by allowing electronic preparation and storage of jury lists using randomized computerized systems.

• Changes jury list preparation from biennial (every odd-numbered year) to annual or biennial based on request from the senior resident superior court judge.

• Removes the requirement that the register of deeds maintain jury records and transfers these administrative duties to the clerk of superior court or trial court administrator.

• Exempts persons lawfully summoned for jury service from paying ferry tolls under G.S. 136-82 when traveling to and from court and their homes for jury duty.

• Updates driver's license list requirements to the Commissioner of Motor Vehicles by removing references to deceased residents and limiting inclusion of non-renewed licenses to those expired less than eight years.
