Allows candidates in nonpartisan elections to voluntarily list their political party affiliation or unaffiliated status on the ballot, with party designation appearing only if the candidate chooses to include it in their notice of candidacy.

Applies to elections for county boards of education, health departments, soil and water conservation districts, and other nonpartisan races governed by local acts.

Requires official ballots to clearly indicate that nonpartisan races with party designations are not included in straight-party voting options.

Effective January 1, 2012 for all elections conducted on or after that date.
