S755 - Equal Access Act Summary

• Enacts the Equal Access Act to ensure all education employee associations receive equal access to school employees and facilities without school favoritism or endorsement.

• Prohibits local school administrative units and schools from granting mailbox access, new employee orientation attendance, or any preferential treatment to one education employee association unless granted to all operating in the unit.

• Forbids schools from endorsing one education employee association over another or referring to school calendar days or breaks by an association's name.

• Protects employees from school discouragement or prohibition against joining any organization or showing preferences toward educational associations.

• Effective beginning with the 2012-2013 school year and applies to charter schools and all schools operated by local school administrative units or State agencies.
