Designates the third Wednesday in May as Hypertension/High Blood Pressure Awareness Day in North Carolina.

Acknowledges that heart disease and stroke are the second and fourth leading causes of death in North Carolina, with high blood pressure as a major modifiable risk factor.

Notes that 32.4% of North Carolina adults reported being told by a health professional they have high blood pressure, and that seven out of ten first heart attacks and eight out of ten first strokes occur in people with high blood pressure.

Endorses education, prevention, and treatment efforts by the Justus-Warren Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention Task Force, American Heart Association, North Carolina Academy of Family Physicians, and other partner organizations.

Resolution effective upon adoption on May 21, 2014.
