Honors the life and memory of Martin Luther Nesbitt, Jr., a former member of the North Carolina General Assembly who died on March 6, 2014, at age 67.

Nesbitt served 31 years representing Buncombe County, including 11 terms in the House of Representatives (1981-1994, 1997-2004) and 5 terms in the Senate (2004-2014), serving as Senate Majority and Minority Leader.

Recognized Nesbitt's major legislative accomplishments including reforming the state's mental health care system, creating the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP), sponsoring the Clean Smokestacks Act, and establishing the Western North Carolina Agricultural Center.

Acknowledged his expertise in health and human services, particularly Medicaid, and his advocacy for Western North Carolina economic development through AdvantageWest and support for the North Carolina Arboretum.

Secretary of State shall transmit a certified copy of the resolution to Nesbitt's family, and the resolution is effective upon ratification.
