Establishes a mandatory retirement age for magistrates in North Carolina equal to the retirement age for justices and judges of the General Court of Justice specified in G.S. 7A-4.20.

Magistrates must leave office by the last day of the month in which they reach the mandatory retirement age.

Amends G.S. 7A-170 to add subsection (b) defining the age limit for continued service.

Effective January 1, 2015, applying only to magistrates whose terms begin on or after that date.

Ratified July 9, 2013, and approved by Governor Pat McCrory on July 18, 2013.
