House Bill 186 Summary

• Authorizes the towns of Cornelius, Davidson, Huntersville, Mooresville, and Troutman to enforce municipal noise ordinances on Lake Norman waters, excluding routine boat engine noise from recreational motor vessels unless it violates state law.

• Permits municipalities to enforce state law regarding theft or vandalism of vessels located in, docked in, or above the waters of Lake Norman.

• Municipal noise ordinances cannot conflict with Chapter 75A or Chapter 113 of the General Statutes.

• Becomes effective August 19, 2013, and applies to offenses occurring on or after that date.
