Allows Person County Board of Education to set school opening dates no earlier than August 12 instead of the Monday closest to August 26.

Removes restrictions on opening and closing dates that previously required State Board of Education approval for early opening dates and limited flexibility for scheduling makeup days.

Eliminates the "good cause" requirement that previously allowed early opening only after schools had closed eight days per year during any four of the last 10 years due to weather or emergencies.

Applies only to Person County schools and takes effect beginning with the 2013-2014 school year.
