Health care facilities performing mammography examinations must include breast density classification information in patient mammography reports using the American College of Radiology's Breast Imaging Reporting and Data System.

Facilities must provide a specific notice to patients with heterogeneously or extremely dense breast tissue informing them that dense tissue affects abnormality detection and may increase breast cancer risk.

The notice must encourage patients to discuss breast density and screening options with their physician, and may direct patients to informational materials about breast density.

Removes reference to G.S. 130A-210 from cancer registry immunity statute, clarifying that immunity applies only to reports made pursuant to G.S. 130A-209.

Becomes effective January 1, 2014.
