Supports efforts to raise awareness among North Carolina citizens about the dangers of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig's disease.

Urges the President of the United States and members of Congress to continue funding research aimed at finding a treatment and eventual cure for ALS.

Describes ALS as a fatal neurodegenerative disease that causes progressive muscle weakness, difficulty swallowing and breathing, muscle atrophy, and eventual paralysis while leaving mental capacity intact.

Notes that ALS patients survive an average of two to five years after diagnosis, up to 30,000 Americans may have ALS, and the disease has no known cause, prevention method, or cure.
