Amends G.S. 15A-534.1(a) to replace the specific definition of "spouse or former spouse or a person with whom the defendant lives or has lived as if married" with a reference to the broader definition of "personal relationship" in G.S. 50B-1(b) for domestic violence cases.

Applies this change to cases involving assault, stalking, communicating threats, or certain felonies (Articles 7A, 8, 10, or 15 of Chapter 14) against a person with whom the defendant has or had a personal relationship, as well as domestic criminal trespass and violations of domestic violence orders.

Maintains existing pretrial release conditions that judges may impose, including prohibitions on contact with alleged victims, requirements to stay away from specified locations, and alcohol monitoring provisions.

Becomes effective December 1, 2013, and applies only to offenses committed on or after that date.
