State Board of Education must develop guidelines for local boards on eating disorder screening programs, including training requirements, opt-out procedures, and parental notification policies in collaboration with the Department of Health and Human Services Division of Public Health.

Local school boards must ensure students in grades 7-12 and their parents receive annual information about eating disorder symptoms, treatment, and health risks, with optional screening programs allowed under state guidelines.

Charter schools, private religious schools, qualified nonpublic schools, and home schools must provide students in grades 7-12 with annual information about eating disorder symptoms, treatment, and health risks.

Department of Health and Human Services Division of Public Health must provide sample educational materials about eating disorders to school administrative units, the Department of Public Instruction, and the Division of Nonpublic Education within 60 days of the act becoming effective and annually thereafter.

The act becomes effective upon passage and applies beginning with the 2013-2014 school year.
