Division of Public Health (with Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services) shall study antibiotic drug use in livestock production in North Carolina.

Study shall examine the antibiotic supply chain and identify which segment (manufacturer, animal owner, feed mill, or farm operator) should report antibiotic use data to the Division.

Survey shall be conducted in the three counties with highest densities of hog, poultry, dairy, and beef populations to estimate types, amounts, application methods, and target species of antibiotic use.

Study shall examine antibiotic resistance trends over the past decade in hospitals within the 10 counties with highest and 10 counties with lowest livestock densities in North Carolina.

Joint report with findings and recommendations must be submitted to the Joint Legislative Oversight Committee on Health and Human Services by January 1, 2015.
