Recognizes the 2012 Great Places in North Carolina selected by the North Carolina Chapter of the American Planning Association: Asheville's Lexington Avenue, Hillsborough's Churton Street, Charlotte's Tryon Street, and Edenton's Broad Street.

Names Gastonia's Main Avenue as a "Great Place in the Making" and Mount Airy's Main Street as the People's Choice winner from an online contest with 1,700 votes cast.

Acknowledges downtown Salisbury as a Great Place in America, as recognized by the American Planning Association in 2012.

Commends community leaders, volunteers, staff, and partners who worked to develop these vibrant centers of commerce and community through thoughtful planning and partnerships.
