Department of Health and Human Services must examine strategies for increasing the number of assisted living residences in rural areas of North Carolina.

Department shall evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of exempting adult care homes, including those serving only elderly persons, from certificate of need review.

Department must submit findings, recommendations, and any proposed legislative changes to the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Health and Human Services, Senate Appropriations Committee on Health and Human Services, Joint Legislative Oversight Committee on Health and Human Services, and Fiscal Research Division by February 1, 2014.

Act becomes effective upon enactment.
