S.L. 2013-226 (Senate Bill 168) Summary

• Eliminates annual reporting requirement for State Board of Education on Disadvantaged Student Supplemental Funding Initiatives and Low-Wealth Initiatives evaluations.

• Removes requirement for State Board to certify compliance with personal education plans for at-risk students and eliminates periodic reports to Joint Legislative Education Oversight Committee on student progress.

• Repeals requirement for State Board to report annually to Joint Legislative Education Oversight Committee on teacher mentoring program impacts and mentor training.

• Removes provision requiring Board of Governors to implement professional development programs for public school employees based on State Board evaluations and recommendations.

• Consolidates and streamlines various reporting requirements for local school administrative units, including eliminating separate submissions for Principal's Monthly Report, Teacher Vacancy Report, and five other specified reports when information can be obtained through PowerSchool or other Instructional Improvement System components.

• Requires teacher education programs and lateral entry teacher programs to include competencies in digital and instructional technologies for integrated digital teaching and learning.

• Allows school improvement teams to request elimination of redundant teacher reporting requirements, with superintendent recommendations subject to local board review.

• Effective date: June 26, 2013 (most provisions); Section 5(c) effective July 1, 2017.
