Revise the Advisory Council on Indian Education's duty to annually review data on American Indian students, including academic performance, growth, suspension and expulsion events, dropouts, and graduation rates provided by the Department of Public Instruction.

Replace the Council's previous advisory role with a new requirement to prepare an annual report and presentation to the State Board of Education that includes an action plan based on the State Board's strategies, policies, and information.

Require the Council to present and share its annual report with Indian Tribes, Indian organizations referenced in Article 71A of the General Statutes, organizations holding membership on the North Carolina State Commission of Indian Affairs, and the Commission itself at the statewide Indian Unity Conference.

Expand the Council's coordination duties to include working with the Department of Public Instruction, Tribal Leaders, and Title VII Coordinators to improve program communication.

Add a new duty for the Council to improve consultations among the State Board of Education, the Department of Public Instruction, and American Indian tribal communities, students, parents, and educators.
