S.B. 387 Summary

• Renames the "Division of Forest Resources" to the "North Carolina Forest Service" throughout state law and updates all references in relevant statutes.

• Updates forest law enforcement authority by transferring certain enforcement responsibilities from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources to the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services for woodland-related offenses.

• Revises firefighter standby duty provisions by changing terminology from "standby duty within 25 miles" to "on-call status" requiring response within 30 minutes, and permits two days off per 14-day duty cycle.

• Grants the Commissioner of Agriculture the right to conduct administrative inspections and obtain warrants under G.S. 15-27.2 to enforce bedding-related provisions and rules.

• Becomes effective July 1, 2013.
